When people talk about the best business class flights, Emirates almost always comes up.
Even award seats purchased using Skywards miles can be upgraded to a higher fare class upon request when flying with Emirates.
If you're paying cash for your ticket, you can upgrade to a more comfortable seat at any tariff level except Economy Special. It's the most limiting option because it costs the least, but you can't buy your way out of it.
Whether you've paid for a Saver, Flex, or Flex Plus price, the required amount of miles to upgrade will be different.
It costs 95,000 Skywards points to upgrade from a Saver seat on a flight from Sydney to Dubai (or 70,200 miles from Flex, or 54,000 miles from Flex Plus). We've already established that points can't be used to upgrade the most affordable Special fares.
Passengers continuing their journey from Dubai to cities including London, Paris, and Frankfurt can upgrade for either 57,500, 39,000, or 30,000 miles depending on the fare booked; however, those travelling the day's distance from Australia to Europe should upgrade the entire trip
From Sydney, Melbourne, or Brisbane to Europe, you may upgrade from economy to a lie-flat bed in Emirates Business Class Upgrade for 171,000, 81,250, or 62,500 Skywards miles, saving you up to 27,950 miles compared to upgrading sectors individually.
When flying with Emirates, you can request an upgrade in advance, whereas with Qantas Classic Upgrade Rewards, you can only request an upgrade on domestic flights.
Upgrades to Emirates' Business Class:
All Emirates upgrades are to the same cabin class, which means the following:
Premium Economy Seat Upgrades are available for Economy Class Passengers.
Travelers in economy class have the option of upgrading to a more Luxurious Business Class.
Upgrades to business class are available to those flying premium economy.
Upgrading to First Class is an option for business class travelers.
If you have enough Skywards miles, you can upgrade your seat. Upgrading to business class allows you to enjoy Emirates' renowned in-flight bar, while first class gives you access to the airline's luxurious shower facility.
There are only so many upgrade spots on every flight, but if you ask for one at least six hours before departure, you just might get it.
A Skywards member of any tier can pay extra miles to guarantee a better seat for themselves and any travelling companions up until the time of boarding.
Requesting for Upgrade:
Upgrades are available for most tickets at any time after purchase, while the Economy Class Saver fares don't allow this until check-in and the lower Economy Special fares don't allow it at all.
If your flights can't be upgraded until closer to departure, you'll get this message when making a new ticket on the Emirates website.
